Personality
Lirael was once an exuberant, joyful, and very expressive person, finding delight in the world around him and the humans he loved so deeply. Freely sharing his thoughts and feelings. However, after his abilities were exploited by people he considered friends, he became far more guarded. His trust broken by past betrayal, has made him unable to let anyone get emotionally close to him, the only exception is The Dawnblades. He pushes people away though contrary to itself his love and desire for connection with humans has never truly ceased even if he pushes people away, he truly seeks that connection. Masking his sadness with aggression, and overreacting to stranger’s friendliness.
Despite this, Lirael remains empathetic and caring, especially toward those he deems worthy of his trust. Being able to manipulate people with his powers, to see how far he can trust them, sometimes he puts others to the test. Nevertheless, Lirael is extremely empathic and can be easily manipulated or swayed by others emotions.
Abilities
Lirael’s powers are tied to his nature as an udin, a water spirit, granting him the ability to alter the mental states of others in various ways. His magic flows much like water itself—fluid, adaptable, and often subtle. He can influence emotions, create calmness, or agitation.
He can read people mental state and enhance emotions or feelings in them, he uses peoples emotions to read into their psychics, similar to how a mentalist would notice micro expressions. The stronger Lirael can relate to the person the easier is to understand their mental. While those that he can’t even if he believes so might be completely outside of his powers.
Lirael is able to read peoples echo if he studies them closely being able to to read their surface emotions mostly, but the more time he spend with the person, his readings could potentially achieve a deeper understanding of the person itself and is ego.
His body though he can make the surface tension thick as skin, is mostly water which he can use to his advantage to turn partially invisible, or take different shapes, a silver colored pearl inside of him contains his soul, and if the sturdy pearl where to be destroyed he would die, besides that it matters little what happens to the rest of his body while he can still replace it with water.
He can heal by taking onto their wounds, as his body is liquid he restores himself and them by empathy. as he shares the pain, he cannot restore organs, or revive the death, as he cannot relate to the death, nor understands organs besides the skin and flesh making him unable to restore it.
In addition to mental manipulation, Lirael’s powers allow him to protect himself through self-preservation magic, enabling him to create barriers, shapeshift slightly, or blend in with his environment much like water would conform to any vessel. His affinity with water also grants him some control over physical water sources, such as summoning or manipulating water for healing or offensive purposes. However, Lirael often prefers to use his powers discreetly, avoiding unnecessary attention.
Background:
Lirael is not human but an udin, a water elemental being with a deep connection to lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water. He is one of the many progenitors of the protector of the lake, a guardian spirit that watches over a sacred body of water. Despite his heritage, Lirael has always felt drawn to humanity and has spent much of his life among them, pretending to be one of their own.
He used joy in their lives and sees beauty in their transient, fleeting existence. Now he finds a sense of realism, where the life on the lake is like a fantasy, he doesn’t regret abandoning the lake, though returning is present on his mind as a good childhood memory he knows he cannot enjoy any longer, being a life too simplistic in nature.
His experiences with betrayal left him wary of getting too close to others, as he was once taken advantage of by people he believed were his friends. They used his powers for their own gain, leaving Lirael feeling violated and distrustful as the people constantly seem not to care about him, or see him as an alien like creature that doesn’t belong there. This has made him more distant, though he still yearns for the deep connections he once had with humans. His past continues to influence him, guiding his decisions and relationships with others.
Motivation:
Lirael’s journey is not just about protecting the world around him but also about healing his own emotional wounds which he is fully aware of. He also desires to finding a place where he truly belongs, a place where he can be treated as equal to his peers. Though he pretends to be human, he doesn’t seek to be one. He’s wary of her overly friendly nature, while he can read her desired of being wary of others, something he can relate to but finds dislike as he sees pieces of his younger less experienced self, but interpreting it as a potential front for ulterior motives.
-
Dornak Boulderfist: Dornak’s relationship with Lirael is a blend of camaraderie and subtle belittling. While Dornak frequently teases or belittles Lirael, he sees him as a younger, inexperienced individual who often speaks before thinking. Dornak’s patience with Lirael comes from a place of affection, almost like an older sibling’s tough love, something which Lirael understands, as he values loyalty which he has found rare to find.
-
Elise Justlise: Her mysterious nature and the many layers to her personality make it nearly impossible for Lirael to get a clear sense of her emotions, something that rarely happens to him. This difficulty in reading her both fascinates and frustrates Lirael, but despite this, he has never felt any reason to distrust her, seeing some of himself in her multiple layers of personalities and emotions.
-
Roland Vestar: Lirael sees Roland as the embodiment of an ideal human and deeply admires him. Roland’s ability to seemingly bypass Lirael’s emotional readings makes him inspiring in Lirael’s eyes. This admiration blinds Lirael to reading into Roland’s darker traits, and he trusts Roland more than he probably should. Lirael overlooks potential warning signs because he sees Roland as a figure of perfection, someone to emulate and rely on.
